A family is only as strong as their story and ours began long before our front doors opened. For over a decade, Claudette Flatow was teaching intimate cooking classes to neighbors out of her small Rockaway kitchen, dreaming of the day she could turn her culinary talents into a rewarding venture.
That venture was Cuisine by Claudette, a casual health-conscious cafe and provisions store that has been a part of the Rockaway community since 2012. Offering made-from-scratch baked goods, gourmet coffee, and mouth-watering food made fresh from quality ingredients, the store was only open for six months before Hurricane Sandy flooded it along with many other local businesses. Choosing to rebuild after such devastation was a challenging choice, but Claudette was determined to show her two sons, John and Yarden, that shying away from your goals and dreams is not an option; you've got to make it happen.
Today, John and Yarden are making it happen as the General Managers of a now thriving, growing, community-based, not-so-small-anymore neighborhood staple. Drop in once and introduce yourself; the staff will never forget your name, nor your favorite menu item. One customer put it perfectly when she said that being in the store was like "being part of a symphony making lovely music. Everyone is focused, calm, pleasant, professional, and supportive of one another. It is beautiful to witness.”
Come experience what Cuisine by Claudette is for yourself; come be a part of the symphony. There is something for everybody here, we promise, from our famous Spinach & Feta Turkey Burgers to our all Vegan Falafel Menu. (We even have dog treats for our furry friends.)
Whether you’re native to the area, or just off the A train looking to fuel up for your beach day, a pitstop at Cuisine by Claudette is the perfect addition to any day. If you’re lucky, Claudette will strike up a soul-food conversation with you, but for the most part, she can be found in the kitchen doing what she loves best: creating real food. And it’s really, really good.
